This is a situation when the body loses too much water and becomes dehydrated. Vasopressin injection is also used to decrease and treat gastric or stomach problems that occur after surgery. It is also used in gastric or stomach roentgenography.

Vasopressin injection is also used to boost blood pressure in adults with vasodilatory shock who again have to maintain blood pressure after taking fluids and medicines.

Vasopressin is a hormone that is released in the body. It works on the kidneys to decrease the flow of urine.

Vasopressin injection is an antidiuretic (that controls fluid balance) hormone synthesized in the hypothalamus of the pituitary gland. When your body cannot produce enough Vasopressin, Vasopressin injection is used to replace it. It helps treat diabetes insipidus. (an unpredictable form of diabetes causing the release of large quantities of urine). Vasopressin increases the amount of water which was absorbed back into your kidneys. Thus, it helps treat diabetes insipidus. Vasopressin increases plasma levels in patients with bleeding disorders. Thus, it helps to control bleeding from the esophageal part. Besides this, Vasopressin causes vasoconstriction by binding vascular smooth muscle. How Vasopressin works

Additionally, this medicine is needed during certain cases of cardiac arrest as an alternative to epinephrine in revival attempts. In severe hemorrhagic shock, it is administered to support blood pressure and vital organ perfusion. Furthermore, this medication plays an important role in regulating social behaviors and bonding in animals, although its full range in humans is still being researched.

Side Effects

• Tingling in your hands or feet;
• Blue lips or fingernails;
• Unusual skin changes, especially in your lower legs or feet;
• Chest pain or tightness, trouble breathing;
• Slow or uneven heart rate, slow breathing;
• Unusual bleeding;
• Severe stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting;
• Kidney problems
• Low blood sodium

Common side effects of vasopressin may include:

Precautions
